    Monkey Buffet Festival 2016

    The 'Monkey Buffet Festival ' is held annually in Lopburi, Thailand. Tourist who enjoy cultural experiences, combining with friendly contacts with local people can book their seat for this festive.


    The Monkey Buffet Festival 2016 is dedicated to the monkeys in Lopburi when the folk around with tourist give special offerings to them, which is consist of large buffet of vegetables and fruits. The temples where the festival is located have been built in the 10th century by the Khmer dynasty. Pra Prang Sam Yot temple is located in huge area. This place provide good habitat for those monkeys and its colonies. Once a year, you will see a unique scenery when monkeys put the fruits and vegetable as offerings shyly. Because for the rest of the year normally they have to do some works to get some foods from the surrounding area.  So, you will be well informed enough when you find design similarities with architecture from Angkor-Wat in Cambodia. Those remaining building, now belong to the Monkey colonies.

The festival held annually on November 25th each year. First it was held in November, 25th 1989. First it only provided with 25 tables contain fruit and vegetable. Due to the huge respond from the locals and tourist, now the festival growth bigger and bigger. Since you will be closely stand near monkeys, be careful with your belonging. Since their nature is always coming around and very attractive, they often took tourist small belonging like goodie bags or pursue, in hope to find food snack or something. Even when you are walking down the street, it was clearly recommended that you had to focus in your activity and never took a chance to watch your precious belonging.

    How to go there?


    If you’re tempted by the mixture of ancient ruins and appallingly behaved Macaques, Lopburi is quick and easy to get to from Bangkok and other points across the country. Here’s how: Frequent buses leave Bangkok’s North and Northeastern (Mo Chit) bus station and take around three and a half hours to arrive at Lopburi’s bus station which is on Naresuan Road, approximately 2km outside of the Old Town.


    It is also easy to take the train. Whether coming from the north and from the direction of Ayuthaya, or from the south and Bangkok, you’ll arrive at Lopburi’s train station on Na Phra Kan Road which is handily located within walking distance to the historic sites and to hotels and guest houses. If you only want to stop off for half a day or so, the station will let you store your baggage there.

    In Thailand there are several choices of trains, ordinary, rapid and express, so make sure you know which one you’re getting if time is of the essence for you. Different trains cost different amounts, with the ordinary being the cheapest. If departing from Bangkok, take the train from the main Hualamphong station; there are a number of departures to Lopburi throughout the day and night. The rapid and express trains take approximately three hours and the ordinary trains about four and a half hours. Whether you go to Lopburi to see the ancient ruins or especially for the Monkey Buffet Festival you’re sure to have unforgettable time in this laid back monkey paradise!
